Somehow summer has already come and gone, and before we jump completely into fall, we wanted to take a minute to look back at everything that happened around the Creative Hub of Apopka.
And honestly, it was a lot!
There were summer camps, workshops, new things we tried, community events, collaborations, lots of kids coming through our doors and plenty of messes made along the way.
We Made A LOT.
Summer camp kept us busy! From Into the Jungle to Food Fest, to culinary, ceramics, painting and more, our tables (and floors!) definitely got a workout.
But one of our favorite parts of camp isn’t just seeing what everyone makes. It’s watching kids walk in with an idea, figure things out, change their minds, make mistakes and eventually walk out pretty proud of what they created.
We Tried Some New Things, Too.
Not everything at the at the Creative Hub of Apopka has to happen inside the Hub.
This summer we grabbed our sketchbooks and headed over to Canon Coffee for an Urban Sketching pop-up, giving people a chance to slow down, look around and draw what they saw.
We also continued finding new ways to bring people together through workshops and creative experiences — some familiar and some completely new.
That’s something we want to keep doing more of.
Creativity Showed Up in the Community.
One of the biggest days of our summer was our Back-to-School event with Re-Imagine Communities and First Methodist Church of Apopka.
Families came through for free book bags and school supplies, kids had plenty of opportunities to make something while they were there, and we welcomed local teachers into the Creative Hub of Apopka for a special Teacher’s Lounge just for them.
It took a lot of hands to make that day happen.
And that’s really what community looks like to us — different people and organizations bringing what they can to the table and creating something bigger together.
And We Kept Building.
Some of what happened this summer wasn’t necessarily something you’d see on the calendar.
We met new people. We worked with new partners. We tried ideas that worked and a few that taught us what we’d do differently next time. We started thinking about new classes, new ways to use our space and what we want the Hub to become next.
That’s part of this place, too.
The Creative Hub of Apopka has always grown a little bit at a time — one idea, one person and one opportunity at a time.
Mostly, We’re Just Really Thankful.
If your child came to camp, you took a workshop, taught something, volunteered, partnered with us, attended an event, shared one of our posts or told someone, “Hey, you should check out the Creative Hub of Apopka,” — thank you.
Every bit of it helps this little place keep going and growing.
Summer was busy, messy, creative and really, really good.
And now we’re ready to see what fall brings.
